Wilson Cottage

Frontenac, Ontario

This project expands a family cottage that has been passed down through generations, creating space for evolving needs and future family gatherings while preserving the character of the existing structure. The original cottage sits directly on Canadian Shield bedrock and celebrates its setting through locally sourced materials including interior pine cladding and a granite fireplace. These elements anchor the building to its landscape and express the history embedded in the property.

Building on this foundation, the design of the addition reinforces the site’s sense of place through careful material selection and thoughtfully curated spaces that frame the surrounding landscape. The expansion provides new areas for family use while maintaining the cottage’s familiar scale and atmosphere, ensuring that the next generation can enjoy the property with the same connection to land and memory that shaped the original building.
