The existing building is located in downtown Almonte. The ground floor contains two occupied commercial spaces, and our work focuses on converting the unused second floor into two new residential units. The renovation introduces one one‑bedroom apartment and one two‑bedroom apartment, reorganizing the level to improve usability, circulation and access to natural light.

To meet current fire separation requirements, a new ceiling will be installed on the ground floor to provide the necessary fire‑rated assembly between the commercial spaces and the residential units above. This upgrade strengthens life‑safety performance while allowing the commercial tenants to remain in place.

The project adapts the existing structure for contemporary residential use and adds much‑needed housing to the downtown core while maintaining the building’s active commercial presence at street level.
